Abidin Dino

Born in Istanbul, he moved with his family to Geneva the same year, then to Paris in 1920, and returned to Istanbul in 1925. After attending Robert College for two years, he left his education to focus on painting and caricature. Without receiving any formal academic training, he continued his painting studies, and his caricatures and writings were published in various magazines and newspapers. In 1937, he settled in Paris, where he befriended Tristan Tzara, Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, and André Malraux. He prepared the "Homage to Parisian Peasant" exhibition dedicated to Louis Aragon, featuring contributions from 80 contemporary artists, including Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso. Besides being a painter, Dino was also a prolific artist in illustration, caricature, ceramics, sculpture, and film. He published numerous articles on art and politics as well.
